Country star and Obama supporter Tim McGraw partnering with murderous Castro regime to legitimize tyranny and oppression

On January 1, 1959, Fidel Castro, a committed Leftist and supporter of communist ideology, led a revolution against then-President Fulgencio Batista.

The armed uprising was successful. On Jan. 7, Batista and his inner circle fled the Cuban capital of Havana for the Dominican Republic while tens of thousands of Cubans cheered the new Castro regime.

To be sure, by all accounts, Batista was a dictator and had little compassion for his countrymen. His government was brutal, corrupt, and inefficient. But Castro, history would demonstrate, proved to be no different, and in fact, some believe that under the leadership of Fidel and his brother Raul, conditions in Cuba have gotten much worse since the Batista days.

During his last term in office, President Obama — who appeared to be more fond of dictators than leaders of free countries — led a delegation to Cuba disguised as a “diplomatic opening.” He was feted by Raul and his son, Alejandro, “a fanatical Stalinist and KGB-trained Colonel in Cuba’s secret police,” according to Humberto Fontova, writing at TownHall.

And now, one of his ardent supporters, country music star Tim McGraw, is preparing to follow in the former president’s footsteps while at the same time helping to enrich a dictatorial regime with proceeds that won’t be shared equally ‘by the people.’

McGraw has announced a four-day “One of Those Havana Nights” events in Cuba for May 2019, Rolling Stone magazine proudly reported, calling it a “cultural exchange event:”

Cultural exchange event will feature acoustic McGraw sets along with performances by Cuban artists Carlos Varela and Los Van Van..Taking place May 23rd to 27th in Havana, Cuba — a country where individual travel from the U.S. is not currently permitted — the event is being presented as part of a cultural exchange program, which will see McGraw share the bill with Cuban artists including Carlos Varela, Traditionales De Los 50 and Grammy winners Los Van Van. McGraw will play two acoustic concerts, one at Teatro Bellas Artes and the other at Teatro Mella, alongside other activities taking in the city’s cultural landmarks.

McGraw’s not the first American to be seduced by tyranny

How ‘cultural’ — traveling from one country where you aren’t killed for having an opposing political view (yet — give Democrats time) to one where you are. How much progress will this “exchange” bring to Cuba, do you imagine? Will McGraw’s mere presence persuade a dictatorial dynasty to reverse its authoritarian ways and finally bring democracy and freedom (and with them prosperity) to the impoverished Caribbean nation?

Doubtful. But the boatloads of money the McGraw tour generates for the Castros will certainly accomplish two things: One, it will legitimize a form of government that McGraw would never himself want to live under; and two, it will further enrich a band of murderous ‘revolutionary’ thugs who are more like a cartel with an organized army than a government.

“In a presentation a few years ago at a hearing by the House Foreign Affairs Committee debating travel to Cuba by U.S. citizens, Lieutenant Colonel Christopher Simmons, a recently retired Defense Intelligence Agency Cuba specialist, explained the issue in detail,” Fontova noted.

“He showed how through a corporation named GAESA, Raul Castro’s military owns virtually every corporation involved in Cuba’s tourism industry, among the Stalinist regime’s top money-makers lately,” Fontova continued.

So while there will be millions flowing into the Castro Corp.’s coffers, the people will remain destitute, oppressed, and out of options save the one Fidel himself chose in January 1959.

As for McGraw, he isn’t the first American seduced by the Castro clan. American author Ernest Hemingway wrote in 1960, “Castro’s revolution is very pure and beautiful. I’m encouraged by it. The Cuban people now have a decent chance for the first time. The people getting shot all deserve it.”

The American Left is quick to blame conservatives for being lovers of authoritarianism, but they are the first ones to embrace and celebrate it.
